DEC members respond to 2011 monsoon floods In Pakistan and India.
Severe monsoon flooding has affected parts of both India and Pakistan. In India, the worst affected area is currently the eastern state of Orissa. In Pakistan, the worst affected area is the southern state of Sindh which was also severely affected by flooding last year.
Many DEC members or their partners are responding in both countries. More than 1.8 million people have been forced from their homes in Sindh where DEC member agencies are continuing to assist those affected by last year’s flooding, many of whom are affected again this year. Funds will continue to be used primary in areas in areas flooded in 2010, including those which have been now been flooded two years in a row. DEC funds can also be used for essential life-saving work in newly-flood parts of Sindh where required.
DEC member agencies appealing specifically for further funds to respond to the flooding in Pakistan this year include the British Red Cross, Islamic Relief, Oxfam and Tearfund.
Fundraising for the 2010 DEC Pakistan Floods Appeal is now closed and while the DEC is closely monitoring the current situation in Pakistan no new appeal has been launched.

Thanks for offering to help In Pakistan here and on facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Disasters-Emergency-Committee-DEC/33268280976. The DEC raises funds to support the work of our 14 member agencies. We play no part in their decisions about the selection of partner NGOs or recruitment of local staff. I hope you find a way to put your skills and experience to use helping others in response to the flooding.
