Donation Help

Can I specify what project I want my donation to go to?

Currently your donation will go towards the Syria Crisis Appeal, the DEC does not have any other appeals active at this time.

I can’t find the donation section on your webpage.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal donation page is only available for a limited period of time after a disaster. If you find that the link is unavailable the DEC has therefore closed the online donation page. If you have any further difficulties please telephone our donation help desk on 0844 800 4884 or email via support@dec.org.uk.

I want to make an anonymous donation. How do I do this?

You can donate to the appeal by sending a cheque, charitable cheque or voucher. See the various ways to donate.

What do I do if I have a problem with my donation?

If you have a problem with your donation please call the DEC Helpdesk on 0844 800 4884 or email support@dec.org.uk.

Why do you use an 0370 number?

Calls to 03 numbers cost no more than calls to numbers beginning 01 and 02 and could be party of any inclusive call minutes or discount schemes. International access to 0370 numbers should be charged at international rates - i.e. there should not be a premium in calling a UK 0370 number as opposed to calling a UK 01 or 02 number. However, access to 0370 internationally is not guaranteed.

If you do not wish to use this number you can donate online at www.dec.org.uk, or by sending a cheque, charitable voucher, at a bank or post office.

Does the DEC incur credit card commission fees?

No, the DEC does not pay any commission fees.

I’ve tried to donate online with no success. What Can I do?

If your donation was successful you would have received a successful screen page stating: “The Donation was submitted”. This is followed by an email sent to the address provided. If you did not see or receive either of these acknowledgments, you can try donating again making sure that you complete all the fields marked with an asterisk (*). We normally process donations within 24 hours Monday to Friday. Any donations received over a weekend are processed by midnight on Monday.

If you find that your donation has not been processed we do hope you will re-submit your online donation as we do need your support. If you have any further queries please call our help desk on 0844 800 4884 or email support@dec.org.uk.

GIFT AID

Do you have a Gift Aid declaration form that I can download?

You can add gift aid either by using our Gift Aid Form or our Postal Donation Form to notify us of Gift Aid, where possible please email these back to support@dec,org,uk, as we can process them faster then.

If you are a fundraiser, your supporters can opt to Gift Aid by ticking the box on your sponsorship form.

I don’t understand what Gift Aid is. Can you explain?

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows us to reclaim the tax you have paid on your donation at no extra cost to you.

If you are a UK taxpayer, the value of your gift can be increased by 25% under the Gift Aid scheme at no extra cost to you. This means a donation of £10, for example, could be worth an extra £2.50 to us.

For your donation to be eligible for gift aid, you must pay an amount of income tax or capital gains tax at least equal to that which charities or CASC's will reclaim on your donations over the tax year. Council Tax and VAT do not count.

The Disasters Emergency committee will treat all donations you have made over the past four years and all donations you make in the future (unless you notify us otherwise) as Gift Aid donations. The tax reclaimed will be used to help fund the whole of the DEC's work.

For more information go to: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/giving/gift-aid.htm

If I donate by phone, can the DEC claim Gift Aid?

Yes. The automated telephone donation line will ask you to confirm whether you wish to Gift Aid your donation. For further information on Gift Aid please go to: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/giving/gift-aid.htm

I said yes to Gift Aid and now I’m worried I’m going to have to pay more.

Gift Aid is reclaimed at no cost to you.
