Over £2m Pledged For Asia In First 24 Hours

The British public has generously donated over £2 million to the Disasters Emergency Committee in the first 24 hours of the DEC’s Asia Quake Appeal.
Phone lines opened at midday yesterday (Tuesday 11 October). Donations have also been flooding in via the DEC website and through high street banks and post offices.
Brendan Gormley, DEC chief executive said: “We are delighted at the generous response so far to this terrible tragedy. Our agencies are already working together to give the most effective response as fast as possible.”
The 13 DEC member agencies are Action Aid, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International UK, Christian Aid, Concern, Help the Aged, Islamic Relief, Merlin, Oxfam, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision.
