Floods across South Asia - India, Bangladesh, Nepal

8th August 2007

DEC members are already at work saving lives in the region and DEC welcomes the action already taken. The initial level of flood waters appear to have decreased and governments in the regions concerned are providing aid and not asking for a major international aid effort at this stage.

DEC and its members will continue to actively monitor the situation for major health implications and a worsening of the environmental situation, especially as this is an early stage in the monsoon season. If the situation changes we will work closely with members and may need to launch a national appeal.

If members of the public wish to donate now they can do this through many of our members whose links can be found on this website.
