What is your DEC Appeal disasters response programme seeking to achieve? In Darfur

  • To provide improved health care to displaced people residing within and outside Kerinding 2 Cap in El Geneina, West Darfur. Using local materials it is intended to rebuild a local health clinic benefiting 2000 households located inside Kerinding 2 Camp that was burned down on 22 May 2007 after an incursion into the camp by unknown armed persons.

In Chad

  • To play a role in the recovery and resettlement of affected families and communities in Haouich displaced people sites at Am Dam in Eastern Chad. 3000 families will benefit
  • Shelter, NFI (Non Food items), Food aid and Livelihoods
  • Provision of plastic sheeting and Non Food items kits for displaced people to 560 households
  • Provision of Non Food items comprising mosquito nets, sleeping mats, blankets, kitchen sets and jerry cans to both displaced people and host community for 840 households
  • Provision of seeds, tools and technical assistance in initiating activities for livelihoods to displaced population and host community for 840 households
  • Education and Training
  • 4 Hygiene and sanitation awareness raising campaigns
  • 1200 posters in local language
  • Education and training workshops held
  • Community Sport - Regular activities for youth and children organised and supported
