The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is warning that six million school children in East Africa will have their education disrupted if funds aren’t raised and aid fails to be delivered.
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for East Africa has raised more than £36 million in 11 days. Donations continue to pour in from the UK public, with over £3m from Scotland, more than £1m from Wales and almost £800,000 from Northern Ireland.
The Islamic community organised nationwide collections outside mosques during Friday prayers in support of the DEC East Africa appeal.
Volunteers from DEC partner agency Islamic Relief held collections at four mosques in London and 11 others across the UK as people attended prayers.
