DEC statement on East Africa crisis

In South Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia, drought and conflict have left 16 million people on the brink of starvation. Across the region, people are in critical need of food, water and medical treatment, with women and children suffering the most.

More than 800,000 children under five are severely acutely malnourished. Without immediate assistance, they are at risk of dying.

DEC member charities are already on the ground delivering life-saving assistance in all affected countries but they need more money to help reduce the scale and severity of the crisis.

The DEC is currently preparing an East Africa Crisis Appeal to launch this week.
