DEC Statement on ongoing conflict in Georgia

01/09/2008

Around 50,000 people have been affected by the armed conflict in South Ossetia with Georgian and Russian troops.

Although fighting has subsided, the humanitarian situation remains precarious. Many affected civilians need food,
water, shelter, sanitation supplies, medicines and other essential items.

The DEC is facilitating the sharing of information between Members who are monitoring the situation. Meanwhile the International Red Cross have set up a preliminary appeal.
