DEC Statement on the Crisis in Sri Lanka

The Disasters Emergency Committee continues to monitor the situation in Sri Lanka and facilitate information sharing between the members. Many DEC Member Agencies have a long standing and substantial presence in the country after the DEC launched an appeal in response to the Asian tsunami in 2004. Access to the area is currently restricted but some agencies are managing to deliver essential aid.

Seven DEC Member Agencies are accepting donations to help with the relief efforts in Sri Lanka. You may donate directly to them if you wish. They are: British Red CrossCare InternationalSave the ChildrenChristian AidCafodWorld Vision and Tearfund.

The DEC is keeping the situation under review against our appeal criteria especially the scale of the need and the ability to access those most at risk.
