The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is extremely concerned about the monsoon flooding affecting Pakistan. Over 1,000 people are reported to have died with that number likely to rise as more information becomes available. About 2.5 million people are believed to have been affected by the floods which may worsen as further rain falls and water moves downstream. In the aftermath of the floods there is a serious risk to survivors from potentially deadly diseases which will spread as a result of contaminated surface and drinking water.
The DEC is in close contact with its Member Agencies and partners regarding the floods and is urgently reviewing the situation against its appeal criteria.
