DEC members

Member Agencies
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is made up of 13 member agencies which provide humanitarian aid in times of disaster.

The 13 member agencies are:

The member agencies are the leading UK registered humanitarian charities that fulfil certain criteria. DEC members have the profile to ensure successful national appeals and expertise in the delivery and provision of aid.

In March 2008 the DEC Board agreed that Membership of the DEC will be reviewed in 2008 and then every three years. Prospective Members will be reviewed against the criteria (see the membership criteria page) and any organisation that wishes to join the DEC should submit their proposal by the end of July 2008. Additional guidance on the criteria is available from membership@dec.org.uk

DEC member agencies are signatories to the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief. They have a demonstrable commitment to the principles enshrined in the humanitarian charter to achieve Sphere and People in Aid standards, plus a willingness to be evaluated against them. .

Rapid Response Network
As well as the member agencies, the DEC also has the support of corporate allies in the Rapid Response Network (RRN), which is made up of broadcasters in television and radio (BBC and commercial), the banks, the Post Office, BT, regional and national press, and a range of organisations in the corporate sector. The RRN is essential for raising funds quickly and effectively when a disaster occurs.

Governance
The DEC is governed by a board of trustees.
