Text to donate (SMS) terms and conditions
- Our Privacy Policy can be read here: https://www.dec.org.uk/article/privacy-policy
- The service is open to all residents of the UK (Excluding Manx and Jersey Telecom customers). Messages sent from unsupported networks may not be delivered and may still incur a standard network message charge.
- You must be 16 or over and have the bill payer’s permission.
- You can donate by texting a valid keyword to 70150. Keywords vary by appeal. Please ensure you are using the correct keyword for an active appeal. If an incorrect or inactive keyword is used, you will not be charged a donation, but your standard network message charge may still apply.
- Each successful text will result in a £10 donation to the DEC Appeal.
- The full £10 donation amount is passed to DEC. Standard network message charges may apply depending on your mobile tariff.
- The following mobile network operators have waived their charges to enable the full donation value to be received by DEC: 3 (Three), O2, EE, Sky Mobile, Virgin Media O2 and Vodafone. HMRC has confirmed that no VAT is charged on these donations.
- If your text is valid and received within the specified campaign period, you will be charged the £10 donation via a reply confirmation message. Any donations made within the published donation period for the Charity which exceed these limits will be charged at your standard network rate only and will not result in a further donation. Unless a cap applies (see below), each valid text you send will result in a charge of a £10 donation plus your standard network message charge, regardless of when you receive your confirmation message(s). Any repeat texts will result in repeat donations.
- Multiple donations can be made, however, there is a daily limit of £40 per mobile number. If you try to donate more than that in a day using the Keyword and Short Code from the same mobile, you will still be charged your standard network message rate but will not be charged the £10 donation.
- The promoter of this service is the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
- We may send you follow-up SMS messages with updates on how your donation is helping. You can opt out at any time by texting STOP.
