The year began with the launch of the Myanmar Earthquake Appeal and throughout the year we continued to raise funds for communities impacted by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Two of the largest humanitarian responses in our history came to an end this year, having supported millions of people affected by conflict in Ukraine and the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Impact of our response
Myanmar
The DEC launched the Myanmar Earthquake Appeal on 3 April 2025 after a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake devastated huge areas of the country. Over 3,000 people were killed with hundreds of thousands more losing their homes, businesses, and livelihoods.
In the first six months of the response, DEC charities and their partners delivered lifesaving support and assistance to over half a million people affected by the earthquake. This included cash assistance for 159,000 people to buy essential items, temporary shelter support for more than 47,000 people and access to clean water for more than 153,800 people. Thousands more were reached with livelihood support, food, access to health services, protection and mental health support, and the work continues.
Middle East
The ongoing conflict continues to drive a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank and Syria. In August 2025 famine was confirmed in parts of Gaza, including Gaza Governorate, for the first time. In Lebanon over a million people were displaced as conflict escalated in March 2026.
The DEC renewed its calls for donations this year as member charities and their local partners continue to deliver urgent, lifesaving aid in extremely challenging circumstances. In Gaza, more than 597,000 people received food in the first 12 months of the response, more than 434,000 had improved access to water and 413,00 people accessed health services. In Lebanon, the West Bank and Syria the ongoing humanitarian response was rapidly adapted to meet people's changing needs.
Ukraine
For three and a half years, 13 DEC charities and their local partners have been delivering lifesaving support and assistance to people affected by the conflict in Ukraine, including internally displaced people and refugees in neighbouring countries. The DEC funded response came to an end in August 2025 having reached over ten million people with support.
From delivering food, water and shelter to communities near the frontline to helping refugees settle into their new host country, the incredibly generous donations from the UK public made a huge difference. Funds also helped to restore children’s access to education, rebuilt community spaces and provided small business grants, helping people to regain their independence.
Turkey and Syria
Since February 2023, 14 DEC charities and their local partners have been supporting people affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria that left 17 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. The DEC funded response came to an end in July 2025 having reached more than 4.6 million people with support.
In the immediate aftermath, urgent aid including food and water, medical care, hygiene supplies and cash to buy essential items helped hundreds of thousands of people get through the crisis, thanks to the incredible amount raised. In the second phase of the response, programmes included providing drinking water to 1.9 million people, rebuilding livelihoods, strengthening healthcare facilities and preparing communities to withstand future disasters.
