It has now been one year since hugely destructive earthquakes killed over 56,000 people and destroyed around 300,000 buildings across southern Turkey (now know as Türkiye) and northwest Syria.

Thanks to the generosity of the UK public, that DEC Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal has raised over £158 million, which enabled DEC charities to help over a million people in the first six months after the disaster. The total makes the DEC the biggest charity donor to the response, according to the UN.
