Impact of our response
Middle East Appeal
The DEC launched the Middle East Humanitarian Appeal on 17 October 2024, having monitored the devastating impact of the crisis in Gaza for over a year. Our appeal criteria were met when conflict escalated in Lebanon, with the confidence that our member charities would continue to be able to deliver aid in the region. The appeal covered areas where the needs were greatest - Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank and Syria.
In the first six months of the response, DEC member charities provided lifesaving aid including food, water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, as well as shelter, medical care, and cash assistance to families in desperate need of help. Most of the funds are allocated to be spent in Gaza. They were able to scale up their work during the ceasefire but the situation has since deteriorated rapidly with ongoing blocks to humanitarian aid and continued airstrikes, making this one of the most complex and challenging responses.

Ukraine Appeal
The DEC launched the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal in March 2022, focusing initially on delivering vital aid to people in Ukraine and to those fleeing to neighbouring countries. The second phase of the response is focused on helping people rebuild their lives as well as capacity strengthening of local services, systems, structures and community groups. This has included supporting people with legal assistance and advice, providing access to mental health and psychosocial support and helping adults and children with activities focused on integration and social cohesion.
While DEC funded programmes will conclude at the end of August 2025 following a responsible exit strategy, some DEC charities and their partners will continue to conduct activities based on the current needs of vulnerable communities, adapting interventions as needs develop and providing as much holistic support for affected communities as possible.

Turkey-Syria Appeal
The DEC launched the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal in February 2023, in what was to become one of our largest ever appeals. In the first six months, urgent needs were prioritised such as food, shelter, medical care, clean water, and cash assistance to people who had lost their homes and belongings.
In the second phase, since August 2023, DEC charities have provided tools, vocational training, and business grants to help people rebuild their livelihoods. For some vulnerable groups, such as women and older people, the training has enabled them to access paid employment for the first time. Specialist mental health support, such as counselling and psychosocial support, has also been provided to help people process their trauma and support them on their journey to healing.
In Syria, following the political change in December 2024, DEC charities and their local partners have been supporting earthquake-affected people to meet their changing needs, including those returning to their communities.

Pakistan appeal
The DEC launched the Pakistan Floods Appeal in September 2022. Over the two-year response which ended in August 2024, DEC member charities and their local partners provided vital support to an estimated three million people. In the first six months, urgent needs were prioritised such as food, shelter, winter survival items, and cash support for families who had lost their homes and belongings.
During the second phase, communities received support in accessing essential facilities such as clean water and healthcare, as well as help to recover and rebuild their livelihoods. They also received tools, training, and grants to help mitigate the impact of future floods - with an emphasis on longer-term recovery and resilience among communities vulnerable to future climate-related crises. DEC charities and their partners worked closely with local communities to build their resilience through establishing Community Disaster Committees, training thousands of volunteers, and supporting emergency preparedness plans.

OUR FIVE YEAR STRATEGY
As we face global changes and more complex challenges in the years ahead, our strategy ensures we are delivering on our mission in the most effective and impactful way possible. Working with our member charities and the Rapid Response Network, our
activities are focused on four strategic pillars
